Kevin had been practicing Chiropractic for over 25 years before he left the profession in 2022. Chiropractic training enables you to find out why your patient is in pain by diagnosing your problem using a very thorough examination and diagnostic tests. Patients are normally in pain because of problems with their joints, muscles and nerves. Occasionally your examination may also spot a related medical complaint for which you will need to see your doctor.
Thousands of patients every year are referred by their practitioners using Chiropractic to their GP’s or to hospital with a condition which requires medical intervention.
Chiropractic treatment involves gentle, safe spinal manipulation to loosen the spinal joints, that are moving incorrectly or are stiffer than they should be, this will cause a ‘pop’ and may give you immediate relief. The ‘pop’ is the sound of bubbles of gas popping in the fluid in the joint as the joint pressure alters.
TREATMENT IN OUR PLYMOUTH BACK CENTRE
After your consultation and examination you will normally be treated immediately, remember the longer you have a painful injury the longer it takes to get better. Please don’t worry, a similar injury to yours has probably been seen hundreds, or even thousands of times by Mr Kelly.
After your consultation and examination the results of your tests will be explained in clear, jargon free terms, after all the more you understand about your problem the more effective your recovery will be. You will be told what is wrong with you, how we can help your problem and what to expect from your first treatment.
You will also probably be given some simple, easy exercises to do and given some advice to help your problem when at home or at work so that you can also help yourself. By doing so your injury will get better more quickly so please follow any exercises and advice as this will help you. You may also be given our clinic’s core exercises which will develop your core muscles.
As well as spinal manipulation treatment, we use other types of treatment such as Myofascial release, Soft tissue Therapy, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy (IASTM), heat, ice, exercise therapy, taping, supports as well as postural advice/exercises. If you have any questions please ask Mr Kelly or the staff at Peverell Back Centre.
YOUR FIRST SESSION
When you visit our clinic for your initial consultation, we will build up a picture of your overall health and general fitness. Patient comfort is taken into account at all times and will be reflected in your examination.
Postural assessment, Orthopaedic assessment and Neurological assessment are undertaken in almost all cases. This enables your presenting problem to be evaluated in many ways which not only assists us with making the diagnosis but also establishing a treatment program that will best apply to your individual issue. In the unlikely event that treatment is contraindicated or unsuitable for you, you will be referred to your GP or relevant specialist.
In some cases other examination procedures may be undertaken as well, blood pressure, pulse, abdominal examination etc. Everybody is different and so are their problems.
